Glock 30s Vs Sf - Considering 30S or 30SF. If I understand correctly, the S has a smaller slide and the SF has a smaller frame. The size of the pens is 30? Which model conceals better for IWB? Thanks in advance!
If you plan to keep it in stock, the 30S will do just fine. If you want to modify your pistol to shoot a different caliber, you will need to choose the 30SF.
Glock 30s Vs Sf
The G30S is a Gen3 G30SF (10+1) receiver (version after June 2012) with a thinner, lighter bolt and barrel, originally designed for the G36 45ACP single barrel pistol. The G30S bolt, designed for the smaller OD (thinner wall) G36 barrel, will not fit the stock G30 or G30SF 45ACP pistol barrel.

The G30SF receiver (short frame) of the G30S differs slightly from the stock Gen3 G30 receiver in that the trigger distance of the SF grip is ~2-3mm shorter when measured from the backstrap to the trigger.
The width of the G30S slide (1.003" ± 0.002") is 1/8" less than that of the G30/30SF (1.126" ± 0.002"). However, the grip width of the G30S is measured at its widest point 1/4 inch below the magnet, the same as the other G30 models (32.50mm or 1.28 inches). Therefore, only a slight improvement in concealment should be expected.
The G30S weighs 3.5 ounces. Smaller than the G30 Gen4, 11% smaller with a full 10-mag. Many appreciate the increased comfort of the G30S pistol when carrying it for long periods of time due to the reduced weight. The overall weight and height of the pistol (handle+mag) can be further reduced for easier concealment with the optional factory 9-gauge magazine available for the pistol. By comparison, the G30S 9-mag grip height is 0.6 inches shorter than the G19 9mm pistol height.

What Makes The Glock 30sf Special (or Why You Might Hate It)
Very detailed information from previous commenters. I bought the 30s a few years ago and have never once regretted my decision. This is my first choice for a layoff year.
The only suggestion I have is to check the GATE Self Defense forum for information on the Mas'in .45 ACP ammo.

I've had 30 on my wish list for several years and plan to one day. However, the 30 gen4 will take a 10mm barrel, so it's on my list. It remains to be seen which of them remains first. Whatever you choose, it will definitely be a good choice.

The G30SF G30S frame uses many of the Gen4 G30's internals. Externally, it is identical to the Gen4 G30 minus the backstrap, Gen4 grip, larger magazine catch, and right mount.
The G36 G30S slide is lighter and less bulky because it is designed for 45ACP. It's not a minimally modified 10mm slide like the G30SF. No Gen4 45ACP pistol other than the G41 uses a slide designed specifically for the size and weight of the 45ACP. The caliber-optimized bolt design makes the G36, G30S, and G41 the most attractive Glock 45ACP pistols, IMO.

The G30 is the largest Glock I have ever tried to carry IWB. A regular G30 is like wearing a 2x4 on your belt. I think if you are comparing a 180 grain to a 40 or a 185 grain to a 45 I would prefer the G27 which is much smaller, less bulky and has similar ballistics.
I copied this image from another post in this thread to show a size comparison between the G26 (same size as the G27) and the G30s. And without the extended base plate, the G26 or G 27 would be much more inconspicuous.

I like shooting the G36, I had a 30sf, I didn't like the weight and size. But if you don't mind the weight and size of the 30s, this is your best bet. looking at it anyway, the 36/30 family is much nicer to shoot than my shorty S&W 38.

It's been 3 years since I turned 30. I've done 2500 rounds without a single failure or stoppage. I never had a BTF with him. I still sometimes wear it in the CrossBreed Supertuck. I personally prefer the 26/27 over the EDC.
I also have a 2014 gen4 30. I need to take more pictures of it than I do. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that it only has 200 rounds in it. It just sits in the safe. Dad changed it to 36. He liked that the smaller 36 was better to carry with him. Both the 30 and the 30 are great guns and I would not hesitate to get another if the desire arose.

I personally have never had a hiccup with the 30s, 30sf, or 36 and have shot all three now.
As I have said in other threads; I gave (2) to my (3) grandchildren and left (1). Competed since the 30's at 25 yards and could hold a bull 4 inches. Grandsons 4 inch bull at 15 yards.
I had 20k rounds in 30 years before racing this rig, never had a problem.
Like I said before, I didn't know others had problems with the frames, I must have missed the negative review from 2013.

What I want to know is why the 30S never made it out of the Glock range if it was such a popular gun model. Why didn't we see this in Gen4 let alone Gen5. My guess is that they know about the problems with the 30S and will never release it in the Gen4 series...kill it if you want. But time will tell and I'm tired of waiting for them to release a new 30S beyond what they currently offer. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're claiming it as yours, never mind, great, I'm happy for you. I'm moving away from the 30S platform myself and won't look back until Glock has a redheaded stepson full of problems.
