Glock 30s Vs Glock 30sf - Considering the 30S or 30SF. If I understand correctly, the S has a shorter slide and the SF has a shorter frame. Are gripes equal to 30? Which model is the best cover for IWB? thanks in advance!
If you want to leave it stock, the 30S is better. If you want to modify your pistol to shoot other calibers, you should go with the 30SF.
Glock 30s Vs Glock 30sf
The G30S is a Gen3 G30SF (10+1) receiver (version after June, 2012) with a thinner, lighter slide and barrel designed for the G36 single-stack 45ACP pistol. The G30S slide is designed for the smaller outside diameter (thin wall) of the G36 barrel, which the factory barrels from the G30 or G30SF 45ACP pistols cannot accommodate.
Glock 42 Vs 43: What Is The Difference?
The G30S's G30SF (short frame) receiver differs slightly from the standard Gen3 G30 receiver in that the trigger reach distance of the SF grip is ~2-3mm from the measuring backplate to the trigger.
The G30S slide width (1.003" ± 0.002") is 1/8 inch shorter than the G30/30SF slide (1.126" ± 0.002"). However, the G30S grip width, measured at the largest point 1/4" below the mag release, is the same as all other G30 models (32.50 mm or 1.28"). Therefore, only a slight improvement in concealment should be expected.
The G30S weighs 3.5 oz. Less than the G30 Gen4, it's 11% less overall with a full 10-nd mag. Many will appreciate the improved comfort of the G30S pistol when concealed for long periods of time due to the light weight. The pistol can more easily conceal the pistol's overall weight and height (grip + mag) with the available 9-nd flush fit factory mag. For comparison, the grip + mag height of the G30S is 0.6 inches less than the height of the G19 9mm pistol with a 9-nd mag.

Very comprehensive information that he commented earlier. I bought the 30s a few years ago and don't regret the decision. It is my first choice for year-round duty.
My only suggestion would be to check out the Get Self Defense Forum for mass insight on .45 ACP carry ammo.

I have had the 30's on my wish list for a few years and plan to get one one day. However, the 30 Gen 4 will accept a 10mm interchangeable barrel and that's why it's on my list. Which comes first remains to be seen. Whatever you choose will definitely be a good choice.
Got My First Handgun! Glock 30 Sf Gen. 4, .45 Acp. What Do You Guys Think?
The G30S's G30SF frame uses most of the Gen4 G30's internals. It is externally identical to the Gen4 G30 with no recoil, Gen4 grip texture, larger magazine catch and its right-side installation option.
The G36 slide is lighter and shorter than the G30S because it is designed for 45ACP. It's not just a modified 10mm slide like on the G30SF. Unlike the G41, the Gen4 45ACP pistol uses a slide designed specifically for 45ACP in size and weight. The slide-capable design makes the G36, G30S, and G41 Glock's most attractive 45ACP pistols, IMO.
Let's also discuss the issues with the G30S. Anyone can find it in this forum.

The G30s are about the largest Glock I've tried carrying IWB. Like carrying a 2x4 inside the normal G30 waist. I think I actually carry a G27 which is much shorter, shorter and has the same ballistics if you compare the 180 grain 40 to the 185 grain 45.
I copied this image from another post in this thread to show a size comparison between the G26 (same size as the G27) and a G30s. The G26 or G 27 can be hidden further without the extended base plate.

Glock 30 Handgun Done In Cerakote H 226 And H 294 By Russell Woske
I love shooting my G36, had a 30sf and didn't like the weight and bulk. But if you don't care about bulk and weight, the 30s are without a doubt, your best option. However I see, the 36/30 family is great for shooting from my S&W Stubby 38.

I am now 30 years old. I put 2500 rounds through it without a single failure or a hitch of any kind. Never had a BTF with it. I still sometimes cross breed in Supertuck. Personally I prefer the 26/27 over the EDC.
I also have a gen 4 30 made in 2014. I should shoot more. I'm embarrassed to admit it only has 200 rounds through it. It sits safely. I traded my dad's 36 for it. He prefers to carry the small 36. 30 and 30 are both great guns and I wouldn't hesitate to get one if the desire arose.
What Makes The Glock 30sf Special (or Why You Might Hate It)
Personally, I don't have a crack at 30, 30, or 36, and I currently own and shoot all three.
As I have said in other threads; I have given (3) and (1) (2) grandchildren. A 4" ball can hold as it is contested from 30 to 25 yards. Potty 4" bull at 15 yards.
I have some 2k rounds in my 30's of retention before encountering this platform and have never had a problem.
As I said before I was not aware that others had problems with their frames, apparently I missed the negative comments from 2013.
Gen4 30 Vs 30s
Some do well in their 30s, some don't. I'm not the only one (even on this forum) who has had nothing but trouble with the 30S. What I want to know is, if the 30S is such a popular gun model, why hasn't it gone further than the Glock internally? Why didn't we see it in Gen4, let's not forget that we saw it in Gen5. I guess they know they have issues with the 30S and will never make it into the Gen4 series... scrap it if you will. But time will tell, I'm tired of waiting for them to come out with a new 30S other than what they are offering now. Now don't get me wrong here, I'm happy to claim that yours is the holy grail, no holds barred, awesome, I'm happy for you. I myself will walk away from the 30S platform and not look back until Gluck has one that isn't a red-headed stepmother full of problems.
